Outdoor Yoga at Bodenham

Enjoy yoga in the open air, exploring the body and opening the mind. Breathe deep and let your body guide you. The session is open to all levels of experience, whether you have never done yoga before or are an experienced practitioner. Enjoying an open flow and open hearted practice in the beautiful grounds of Bodenham Arboretum. Guided by yoga teacher Victoria Waits you will be taken on a journey releasing tension and stress within the body physical and emotionally. Listening to the sounds of nature, connecting to the earth, feeling the breeze and sharing the space with like minded people. Suitable for ages 16+

Duration – one and a half hours – 1.30-3.00pm.

Lovely food and refreshments (not included in the price) available from the Visitor Centre – so you’re welcome to enjoy a drink and sit down after the workshop has finished.

These workshops are held in the grounds outdoors, enjoying the fresh air and beautiful sunshine. Sessions are weather permitting, if it is raining on the day you will receive notification that the workshop has been cancelled and will be refunded in full.

Friday 12 July, Friday 23 Aug – Silver Clay Jewellery Making Workshop

A wonderful 3-hour workshop, in the tranquil setting of Bodenham’s Lakeside Room, led by Kim Ridler who brings her experience in silver-smithing, enamelling and silver-clay.

The workshop is suitable for beginners and will take you through each stage of the process – rolling out the clay, texturing, cutting, drying, sanding, firing, finishing – with a bit a of polishing of your very own piece of silver jewellery!

All materials are included.
The workshop can accommodate 4 people (suitable for all ages aged 16+) and please note that you must wear closed toe footwear. Silver chains will also be available to purchase on the day if you wish to hang your beautiful pendant on one.

Explore the art of Tai Chi with tutor Louise Moray, set within the beautiful grounds of Bodenham Arboretum. This 3 hour workshop covers the basic principles of Tai Chi, and the opening section of the Yang Style short form.

Svartland Vikings come to Bodenham!

They’re back! Come down to Bodenham and experience the life of a Viking where you’ll get to see the different crafts, skills, games, pastimes and combat displays! A great family event!

All the Svartland members are very friendly and approachable and love to talk to people and share their knowledge of the Viking Age! Various displays throughout the day / over the weekend.

Normal admission charges apply to go into the grounds – £6.50 Adults, £3.50 (5-16 year olds), under 5s free of charge.

The Vikings will also be returning in September!

‘An Inspirational journey from pencil & watercolour studies of landscape to a wool fibre painting.’

10 am – 4pm, Wed 4th, Thurs 5th, Fri 6th, Wed 11th, Thurs 12th, Fri 13th Sept, 

Join professional Artist and Art Tutor Raya Brown for an inspirational journey, creating pencil and watercolour landscapes, culminating in a unique wool fibre art painting.

Working outdoors in the lovely grounds of Bodenham Arboretum, to begin, you will explore the flora of the great garden by making sketchbook studies of nature – trees, plants, sky, water and the surrounding countryside.

You will receive guidance in pencil and watercolour techniques. You will explore line, tone, colour and composition as well as develop your observational skills. These studies will help you to capture interesting scenes and convey impressions of atmosphere.

Finally, you will use your landscape work to produce a wool painting/ wool watercolour. Raya will introduce you to the unique technique of making a painting using layers of merino wool and enhancing it with silk and viscose fibres. You will love the therapeutic experience of working with feather like strands of natural fibres and exploring various textures and effects.

This course is ideal if you are either new to sketching and watercolour or if you have some experience and wish to refine your existing skills. It also offers you the opportunity to learn a new medium, develop your creative skills and share ideas with likeminded people in a friendly, comfortable and tranquil environment.

Cost – £215 for this 6-day course (during a two week period) – includes entry tickets to Bodenham Arboretum, tuition and the cost of some materials. In the case of bad weather we will be able to study indoors at the Gazebo in the grounds of the Arboretum. Lunch not included but can be purchased at the Arboretum.

Wed 26th June  ‘Butterfly Days’ Inking Workshop

Join us for a morning of calm creativity in the beautiful Lakeside Room at Bodenham Arboretum. It’s a stunning location and perfect for a morning of mindful making. In this relaxing, creative workshop, Lisa will lead you through three simple inking techniques to help you explore mixed media layering.

Lose yourself in this simple process, working with layers of printed papers, vellum, and washi to create your own trio of inked artwork celebrating golden summer days. We’ll show you some simple techniques for adding embellishments for super satisfying results and you’ll be able to frame your masterpieces to take away.

This is an uplifting, beginner friendly creative session, with two hours tuition, all materials and tools provided for use during the workshop and hot / cold drinks included. Tutors Lisa and Claire are qualified teachers, who have been running creative and crochet workshops since 2014 helping people to learn new craft skills and relax with mindful making.

Wed 10th – Sun 28th April –  The Bodenham Easter Trail

Easter just would not be complete without an Easter Bunny and his favourite food – carrots! Hunt for his carrots and other favourite vegetables around the Arboretum which will lead you to Mr McGregor’s Garden, before collecting a treat from the Visitor Centre.

The Easter Trail is included in normal admission into the Grounds – over 5 miles of wonderful woodland walks for the family to explore! Admission also gives you access to the farm where you can say hello to our Spring lambs and young calves, plus our donkeys always provide a warm welcome!

Mon 8th & 15th April –  Pencil & Watercolour Workshops

Come down to Bodenham Arboretum and unleash your inner artist with the help of local artist Daphne Millington. Learn new skills using pencils and / or watercolours to create your very own masterpiece.

We ask that you please bring a HB pencil + a selection of coloured pencils, putty rubber and smooth paper if you’re sticking to the pencil drawing; if you prefer using watercolours please bring along your own paints and brushes – however we will have some spare if you’re unable to get hold of all of these.

The day also includes morning tea or coffee with cake, homemade meat plaits with a selection of delicious salads and a scrumptious homemade dessert and finish the day off with the Bodenham afternoon cream tea.

Join us for a morning of calm creativity in the beautiful Lakeside Room here at Bodenham.Learn the basics of printing on fabric, whilst working with a dreamy palette of colours and fresh floral motifs to make a printed natural canvas pouch to take away.

We’ll start by working with tactile cork motifs to fashion your floral pattern printing block before exploring a soothing palette of muted colours to create your own fresh floral design. You will then be taken through the basics of printing on a natural canvas pouch and trying out different tools to add details to your pattern.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course

The gold standard Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course comes back to Bodenham for the second year.
MBSR is the widest researched and longest established secular Mindfulness course available which is open to all religions and none. It brings together meditation and gentle mindful movement in a structured course that teaches us to build resilience when facing life’s challenges, reduces our stress and anxiety levels and enables us to discover ways to lead a happier healthier life.

Dry Felting Mini Landscapes Workshop

Join us for a morning of calm creativity in Bodenham’s beautiful Lakeside Room. Learn the basics of dry felting and work with luxurious merino wool to create your own colourful mini landscape designs.This is a beginner friendly creative session, with two hours tuition, all materials and tools provided for use during the workshop and hot / cold drinks included.

Tutors Lisa and Claire are qualified teachers, who have been running creative and crochet workshops since 2014 helping people to learn new craft skills and relax with mindful making.

Experience the energy of traditional West African drumming and the joy of community music making with tutor Faith Sax for an energizing day here in the beautiful surroundings of Bodenham Arboretum.

The day is pitched for beginners and improvers to learn how to play Djembe and Bass Drums. Drums are provided. Other Workshops will be running throughout the year.

Wilderness Explorers is a two hour session for 5-12 year olds (or one hour for the Under 5s) where the children can experience and discover the woods in a safe and secure environment. The sessions are run by ‘The World Outside’ – an independent Forest School set within the wonderful woodland of Bodenham Arboretum which provides a beautiful backdrop for our adventures!

Activities include bushcraft and forest school type activities, including den building, mud kitchen, cooking on the fire, natural arts and crafts.
Please note that unless otherwise stated that children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Ages are for guidance only please enquire if you have siblings outside of the suggested age group

Christmas Nativity Trail

The Nativity Trail at Bodenham has long been a tradition popular with families for several years. We invite you to come and take part in our magical family event, following the stars, before reaching the live Nativity Scene in the farmyard barns, complete with our family of donkeys.

You can take part in our competition along the way – answering questions along the trail before posting your entry in the Visitor Centre. The winners will be announced at the end of the Christmas Season and a prize awarded.

The Nativity Trail is included in normal admission into the grounds – £6.50 Adults, £3.50 Children (5-16 years).
Booking isn’t necessary – simply turn up and pay upon arrival.

One of favourite family events of the year! Join the torch-lit procession from the Visitor Centre to the Barns for our Christmas Carol Service led by the Reverend Bridget Woodall, before returning to the Lakeside Terrace for mulled wine and mince pies (included in ticket price).

Pencil & Watercolour Workshops

Come down to Bodenham Arboretum and unleash your inner artist with the help of local artist Daphne Millington. Learn new skills using pencils and / or watercolours to create your very own masterpiece.

We ask that you please bring a HB pencil + a selection of coloured pencils, putty rubber and smooth paper if you’re sticking to the pencil drawing; if you prefer using watercolours please bring along your own paints and brushes – however we will have some spare if you’re unable to get hold of all of these.

The day also includes morning tea or coffee with cake, homemade meat plaits with a selection of delicious salads and a scrumptious homemade dessert and finish the day off with the Bodenham afternoon cream tea.

Charity Neon Dog Walk

The Greyhound Trust Hall Green and Bodenham Arboretum invite you to a Neon Dog Walk in support of MacMillan Cancer Support and the Animal Cancer Trust.

Join us as we take an enchanted woodland walk with our four-legged friends, illuminating the pathways on this November evening! Anyone can join in – you don’t have to bring a dog! There will be an approximate 1-mile circuit around the Arboretum – meet at 5pm and we leave the Visitor Centre at 5.30pm. Return to the Visitor Centre after the walk for a light supper which comprises a jacket potato with a choice of filling.

Neon collars / necklaces will be available to purchase on the evening, however you are welcome to bring your own.

‘Walpurgisnacht’ – Three Spine Chilling Ghost Stories by Candlelight & Supper

Following the success of our earlier ‘Evening of Delectable Terror, the talented Alan Birch returns as The Librarian to read by candlelight three spine chilling ghost stories from A.G Smith in one terrifying night …..Walpurgisnacht (pronounced Val-purr-gess-nacht).

“Walpurgis Night was when, according to the belief of millions of people, the devil was abroad—when the graves were opened and the dead came forth and walked. When all evil things of earth and air and water held revel.” Bram Stoker, “Dracula’s Guest”

Venue: The Visitor Centre, Bodenham Arboretum.
Doors open 7.00pm for 7.30pm start.

Supper: Choose from Lamb Tagine, Beef Hotpot or Pork in Apple and Cider, served with rice and crusty bread. A Vegetarian option will also be available, plus we will gladly cater for anyone with special dietary requirements. A bar will also be open.

Story 1: THE DWELLING
An unsolved murder, a creepy stranger and the arrival of a mysterious book on the shelves of Weeping Bank Library, lead us into the dark world of witchcraft.

Story 2: DR ABSALOM’S LETTERS
When noted wildlife expert Doctor Absalom refuses to provide a foreword for a new book on Cryptozoology his stable life slowly begins to unravel as he is sent a series of disturbing letters warning him to reconsider.

Story 3: THE FIGURE ON THE PIER
Artist Humphrey Oscroft is commissioned to paint the official portrait of the opening ceremony of Weeping Bank Pier. When he develops the photograph taken on the morning of the ribbon cutting, he discovers the blurred image of a figure standing amongst the crowd. Who is she, and what is the horrifying secret he has captured in his photograph?

Halloween Torchlit Pumpkin Walk

Due to popular demand this year we have extended our event to 5 nights: Sat 27th – Wed 31st October, 5.00 – 7.30pm.                  (Please note that tickets for SAT 27th and SUN 28th Oct have sold out).

A wonderful family event where you can enjoy a torchlit walk around the Big Pool at Bodenham Arboretum, spotting the pumpkins and trying to work out the hidden word. Then on the lakeside terrace take part in fun activities such as cooking marshmallows on the camp fire, making a spooky spider or wand at the craft table, listening to our scary ghost stories or apple bobbing…!

The restaurant will also be open to purchase homemade soup, jacket potatoes and warm drinks.

Mandala Stone Workshop

Experience the calm of slow, mindful making in this relaxed, process based workshop in Bodenham’s beautiful Lakeside Room. Rich in symbolism, “Mandala” comes from a sanskrit word meaning circle. These ancient patterns are found in many different cultures representing unity & harmony between the inner being and the outer world.

Tutors Lisa and Claire are qualified Teachers, BA Hons, PGCE (Claire) and BEd Hons (Lisa) who have been running creative and crochet workshops since 2014 helping people to learn new craft skills and relax with mindful making.

This is a beginner friendly, creative workshop where you will learn how to paint your own beautiful, concentric circle designs, using simple tools and a range of vibrant colours.  Two hours of relaxed, mindful making. All materials are provided for use during the workshop, including paint, tools and your own smooth Cornish cobble. You also get a personalised take away kit which includes a sampler bookmark, pencil, blank card tags, circle apertures, mini acrylic paint pot and a set of dotting tools. Hot / cold drinks are also provided.

An Autumn Poetry Trail

A Celebration of Autumn showcasing the work of The Bewdley Bards!

Meander around the wonderful woodland walks of Bodenham, soak up the splendour of the beautiful Autumnal colours and find inspiration with a collection of poems decorating the trees in celebration of the most colourful season of the year!

The Trail will showcase the work of local writing group ‘The Bewdley Bards’ who wish to share their odes to Autumn, as well as featuring the poetry of some of our finest poets such as John Clare, Shakespeare and Keats.

We will also be running a Poetry Competition for anyone wishing to try their hand…details can be found on the Trail. Plus you can pop along and meet some of the members of the Bewdley Bards for some poetry readings on Thursday 4th October which is National Poetry Day!

Svartland Vikings come to Bodenham!

They’re back! Come down to Bodenham and experience the life of a Viking where you’ll get to see the different crafts, skills, games, pastimes and combat displays! A great family event!

All the Svartland members are very friendly and approachable and love to talk to people and share their knowledge of the Viking Age! Various displays throughout the day / over the weekend.

Fun Dog Show & Fete! 11am – 3.00pm

Come and join Greyhound Trust Hall Green at Bodenham Arboretum for a special day.

World renowned Cartoonist Richard Skipworth and his faithful greyhound Magic will be opening the dog show at around 11 am and will be there most of the day to meet and greet along with some of his work.

An all Breeds Dog Show with rosettes and trophies, our unusual stalls, the Blood Bank team and of course the amazing Heelwork to Music Westglen, Clent HTM Team along with a Face Painter and Balloon modeler ….. plus you can walk around the Arboretum, eat at the restaurant and enjoy all it has to offer … can you really afford to miss it?

Special rates for this charity day – a small admission fee of £2.00 for Adults (the dog and owner get free entry into one of our classes) and £1.00 for under 16’s with half of the entry fee going to the hounds in the charity’s care.

The BodenGnome Trail

Come and explore the BodenGnome Trail here at the Arboretum and see if you can spot our gnomes! Maybe they’re out on a woodland walk or perhaps they’ve gone fishing? Or maybe they’re helping out on the farm! Track them down, solve the puzzles and enter the competition to win a prize! Fun for all the family!

The BodenGnome Trail runs throughout the summer – it opens Sat 21st July and runs until Sun 2nd September. Please note we are closed Mondays and Tuesdays except for Bank Holiday.

Open Air Yoga with Victoria Waits

Enjoy yoga in the open air, exploring the body and opening the mind. The session is open to all levels of experience, whether you have never done yoga before or are an experienced practitioner. Enjoying an open flow and open hearted practice in the beautiful grounds of Bodenham Arboretum. Guided by yoga teacher Victoria Waits you will be taken on a journey gaining knowledge about the body, how it moves and how you can help release tension and stress. Increase your self awareness and well being, build strength and flexibility. Each time you come along to a session you will gain information which will enable you to take this experience home and learn to heal your body in your personal practice and adjust it to your own bodies needs. We ask that you please bring a HB pencil + a selection of coloured pencils, putty rubber and smooth paper if you’re sticking to the pencil drawing; if you prefer using watercolours please bring along your own paints and brushes – however we will have some spare if you’re unable to get hold of all of these.

The day also includes morning tea or coffee with cake, homemade meat plaits with a selection of delicious salads and a scrumptious homemade dessert and finish the day off with the Bodenham afternoon cream tea.

Botanical ‘Sun Prints’ Workshop

Bodenham Arboretum is delighted to host this inspirational ‘Botanical Sun Prints Workshop’ led by Lisa and Claire from ‘Create Some Time.’

Learn how to get started with cyanotype printing and experiment with your own botanical designs. Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. Engineers used the process well into the 20th century as a simple and low-cost process to produce copies of drawings, referred to as blueprints.

Enjoy acquiring a new skill and experience the calm of slow, mindful making in this relaxed, process based workshop in Bodenham’s beautiful Lakeside Room.

Tutors Lisa and Claire are qualified Teachers, BA Hons, PGCE (Claire) and BEd Hons (Lisa) who have been running creative and crochet workshops since 2014 helping people to learn new craft skills and relax with mindful making.

This is a beginner friendly, creative workshop where you will be exploring the process of cyanotype printing. You will learn how to get started with cyanotype printing and experiment with your own designs.

There will be the opportunity to choose from a range of pressed leaves, petals, blooms, die cuts and haberdashery to compose a reference print before moving on to explore the materials further to design your own prints. All materials are provided for use during the workshop and you will also receive a lovely, take away kit full of tips, ideas and resources to turn your prints into super satisfying projects at home. Hot / cold drinks provided.

Family Yoga at Bodenham

A lovely yoga workshop for the family which will be hosted by Rebecca Yoga Fae, a kind and open-hearted teacher who has so many years of experience working with children. Inspiring children to be creative through movement and imagination.
 
The family yoga workshop is a chance for you to spend valuable time together and take a journey through yoga. Not only will you learn about the benefits it has for you and your child but it is an opportunity to take away some ideas to continue within a home environment.
 
It is Rebecca’s aim as a teacher to facilitate a fun and rewarding session where we can use yoga through play and story time. During the session you will also work on mindful breathing exercises and end with a relaxation visualisation.

Enjoy yoga in the open air, exploring the body and opening the mind. Breathe deep and let your body guide you. ‘An Inspirational journey from pencil & watercolour studies of landscape to a wool fibre painting.’

Join professional Artist and Art Tutor Raya Brown for an inspirational journey, creating pencil and watercolour landscapes, culminating in a unique wool fibre art painting.

Working outdoors in the lovely grounds of Bodenham Arboretum, to begin, you will explore the flora of the great garden by making sketchbook studies of nature – trees, plants, sky, water and the surrounding countryside.

You will receive guidance in pencil and watercolour techniques. You will explore line, tone, colour and composition as well as develop your observational skills. These studies will help you to capture interesting scenes and convey impressions of atmosphere.

Finally, you will use your landscape work to produce a wool painting/ wool watercolour. Raya will introduce you to the unique technique of making a painting using layers of merino wool and enhancing it with silk and viscose fibres. You will love the therapeutic experience of working with feather like strands of natural fibres and exploring various textures and effects.

This course is ideal if you are either new to sketching and watercolour or if you have some experience and wish to refine your existing skills. It also offers you the opportunity to learn a new medium, develop your creative skills and share ideas with likeminded people in a friendly, comfortable and tranquil environment.

Cost – £215 for this 6-day course (during a two week period) – includes entry tickets to Bodenham Arboretum, tuition and the cost of some materials. In the case of bad weather we will be able to study indoors at the Gazebo in the grounds of the Arboretum. Lunch not included but can be purchased at the Arboretum.

Easter just would not be complete without an Easter Bunny and his favourite food – carrots! Hunt for his carrots and other favourite vegetables around the Arboretum which will lead you to Mr McGregor’s Garden, before collecting a treat from the Visitor Centre.

The Easter Trail is included in normal admission into the Grounds – over 5 miles of wonderful woodland walks for the family to explore! Admission also gives you access to the farm where you can say hello to our Spring lambs and young calves, plus our donkeys always provide a warm welcome!

A wonderful 3-hour workshop, in the tranquil setting of Bodenham’s Lakeside Room, led by Kim Ridler who brings her experience in silver-smithing, enamelling and silver-clay.

The workshop is suitable for beginners and will take you through each stage of the process – rolling out the clay, texturing, cutting, drying, sanding, firing, finishing – with a bit a of polishing of your very own piece of silver jewellery!

All materials are included.
The workshop can accommodate 4 people (suitable for all ages aged 16+) and please note that you must wear closed toe footwear. Silver chains will also be available to purchase on the day if you wish to hang your beautiful pendant on one.

Join us for a morning of calm creativity in the beautiful Lakeside Room here at Bodenham.Learn the basics of printing on fabric, whilst working with a dreamy palette of colours and fresh floral motifs to make a printed natural canvas pouch to take away.

We’ll start by working with tactile cork motifs to fashion your floral pattern printing block before exploring a soothing palette of muted colours to create your own fresh floral design. You will then be taken through the basics of printing on a natural canvas pouch and trying out different tools to add details to your pattern.

This is a beginner friendly creative session, with two hours tuition, all materials and tools provided for use during the workshop and hot / cold drinks included.

Tutors Lisa and Claire are qualified teachers, who have been running creative and crochet workshops since 2014 helping people to learn new craft skills and relax with mindful making.

The gold standard Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course comes back to Bodenham for the second year.
MBSR is the widest researched and longest established secular Mindfulness course available which is open to all religions and none. It brings together meditation and gentle mindful movement in a structured course that teaches us to build resilience when facing life’s challenges, reduces our stress and anxiety levels and enables us to discover ways to lead a happier healthier life.

Wilderness Explorers is a two hour session for 5-12 year olds (or one hour for the Under 5s) where the children can experience and discover the woods in a safe and secure environment. The sessions are run by ‘The World Outside’ – an independent Forest School set within the wonderful woodland of Bodenham Arboretum which provides a beautiful backdrop for our adventures!

Activities include bushcraft and forest school type activities, including den building, mud kitchen, cooking on the fire, natural arts and crafts.
Please note that unless otherwise stated that children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Ages are for guidance only please enquire if you have siblings outside of the suggested age group

Christmas Nativity Trail

The Nativity Trail at Bodenham has long been a tradition popular with families for several years. We invite you to come and take part in our magical family event, following the stars, before reaching the live Nativity Scene in the farmyard barns, complete with our family of donkeys.

You can take part in our competition along the way – answering questions along the trail before posting your entry in the Visitor Centre. The winners will be announced at the end of the Christmas Season and a prize awarded.

The Nativity Trail is included in normal admission into the grounds – £6.50 Adults, £3.50 Children (5-16 years).
Booking isn’t necessary – simply turn up and pay upon arrival.

One of favourite family events of the year! Join the torch-lit procession from the Visitor Centre to the Barns for our Christmas Carol Service led by the Reverend Bridget Woodall, before returning to the Lakeside Terrace for mulled wine and mince pies (included in ticket price).

A bar will be open & hot food inc turkey baguettes will be served until 9pm. Vegetarian option & Children’s Snack Boxes also available.

Pencil & Watercolour Workshops

Come down to Bodenham Arboretum and unleash your inner artist with the help of local artist Daphne Millington. Learn new skills using pencils and / or watercolours to create your very own masterpiece.

We ask that you please bring a HB pencil + a selection of coloured pencils, putty rubber and smooth paper if you’re sticking to the pencil drawing; if you prefer using watercolours please bring along your own paints and brushes – however we will have some spare if you’re unable to get hold of all of these.

The day also includes morning tea or coffee with cake, homemade meat plaits with a selection of delicious salads and a scrumptious homemade dessert and finish the day off with the Bodenham afternoon cream tea.

Charity Neon Dog Walk

The Greyhound Trust Hall Green and Bodenham Arboretum invite you to a Neon Dog Walk in support of MacMillan Cancer Support and the Animal Cancer Trust.

Join us as we take an enchanted woodland walk with our four-legged friends, illuminating the pathways on this November evening! Anyone can join in – you don’t have to bring a dog! There will be an approximate 1-mile circuit around the Arboretum – meet at 5pm and we leave the Visitor Centre at 5.30pm. Return to the Visitor Centre after the walk for a light supper which comprises a jacket potato with a choice of filling.

Neon collars / necklaces will be available to purchase on the evening, however you are welcome to bring your own.

‘Walpurgisnacht’ – Three Spine Chilling Ghost Stories by Candlelight & Supper

Following the success of our earlier ‘Evening of Delectable Terror, the talented Alan Birch returns as The Librarian to read by candlelight three spine chilling ghost stories from A.G Smith in one terrifying night …..Walpurgisnacht (pronounced Val-purr-gess-nacht).

“Walpurgis Night was when, according to the belief of millions of people, the devil was abroad—when the graves were opened and the dead came forth and walked. When all evil things of earth and air and water held revel.” Bram Stoker, “Dracula’s Guest”

Venue: The Visitor Centre, Bodenham Arboretum.
Doors open 7.00pm for 7.30pm start.

Supper: Choose from Lamb Tagine, Beef Hotpot or Pork in Apple and Cider, served with rice and crusty bread. A Vegetarian option will also be available, plus we will gladly cater for anyone with special dietary requirements. A bar will also be open.

Story 1: THE DWELLING
An unsolved murder, a creepy stranger and the arrival of a mysterious book on the shelves of Weeping Bank Library, lead us into the dark world of witchcraft.

Story 2: DR ABSALOM’S LETTERS
When noted wildlife expert Doctor Absalom refuses to provide a foreword for a new book on Cryptozoology his stable life slowly begins to unravel as he is sent a series of disturbing letters warning him to reconsider.

Story 3: THE FIGURE ON THE PIER
Artist Humphrey Oscroft is commissioned to paint the official portrait of the opening ceremony of Weeping Bank Pier. When he develops the photograph taken on the morning of the ribbon cutting, he discovers the blurred image of a figure standing amongst the crowd. Who is she, and what is the horrifying secret he has captured in his photograph?

Halloween Torchlit Pumpkin Walk

Due to popular demand this year we have extended our event to 5 nights: Sat 27th – Wed 31st October, 5.00 – 7.30pm.                  (Please note that tickets for SAT 27th and SUN 28th Oct have sold out).

A wonderful family event where you can enjoy a torchlit walk around the Big Pool at Bodenham Arboretum, spotting the pumpkins and trying to work out the hidden word. Then on the lakeside terrace take part in fun activities such as cooking marshmallows on the camp fire, making a spooky spider or wand at the craft table, listening to our scary ghost stories or apple bobbing…!

The restaurant will also be open to purchase homemade soup, jacket potatoes and warm drinks.

Mandala Stone Workshop

Experience the calm of slow, mindful making in this relaxed, process based workshop in Bodenham’s beautiful Lakeside Room. Rich in symbolism, “Mandala” comes from a sanskrit word meaning circle. These ancient patterns are found in many different cultures representing unity & harmony between the inner being and the outer world.

Tutors Lisa and Claire are qualified Teachers, BA Hons, PGCE (Claire) and BEd Hons (Lisa) who have been running creative and crochet workshops since 2014 helping people to learn new craft skills and relax with mindful making.

This is a beginner friendly, creative workshop where you will learn how to paint your own beautiful, concentric circle designs, using simple tools and a range of vibrant colours.  Two hours of relaxed, mindful making. All materials are provided for use during the workshop, including paint, tools and your own smooth Cornish cobble. You also get a personalised take away kit which includes a sampler bookmark, pencil, blank card tags, circle apertures, mini acrylic paint pot and a set of dotting tools. Hot / cold drinks are also provided.

An Autumn Poetry Trail

A Celebration of Autumn showcasing the work of The Bewdley Bards!

Meander around the wonderful woodland walks of Bodenham, soak up the splendour of the beautiful Autumnal colours and find inspiration with a collection of poems decorating the trees in celebration of the most colourful season of the year!

The Trail will showcase the work of local writing group ‘The Bewdley Bards’ who wish to share their odes to Autumn, as well as featuring the poetry of some of our finest poets such as John Clare, Shakespeare and Keats.

We will also be running a Poetry Competition for anyone wishing to try their hand…details can be found on the Trail. Plus you can pop along and meet some of the members of the Bewdley Bards for some poetry readings on Thursday 4th October which is National Poetry Day!

Svartland Vikings come to Bodenham!

They’re back! Come down to Bodenham and experience the life of a Viking where you’ll get to see the different crafts, skills, games, pastimes and combat displays! A great family event!

All the Svartland members are very friendly and approachable and love to talk to people and share their knowledge of the Viking Age! Various displays throughout the day / over the weekend.

Fun Dog Show & Fete! 11am – 3.00pm

Come and join Greyhound Trust Hall Green at Bodenham Arboretum for a special day.

World renowned Cartoonist Richard Skipworth and his faithful greyhound Magic will be opening the dog show at around 11 am and will be there most of the day to meet and greet along with some of his work.

An all Breeds Dog Show with rosettes and trophies, our unusual stalls, the Blood Bank team and of course the amazing Heelwork to Music Westglen, Clent HTM Team along with a Face Painter and Balloon modeler ….. plus you can walk around the Arboretum, eat at the restaurant and enjoy all it has to offer … can you really afford to miss it?

Special rates for this charity day – a small admission fee of £2.00 for Adults (the dog and owner get free entry into one of our classes) and £1.00 for under 16’s with half of the entry fee going to the hounds in the charity’s care.

The BodenGnome Trail

Come and explore the BodenGnome Trail here at the Arboretum and see if you can spot our gnomes! Maybe they’re out on a woodland walk or perhaps they’ve gone fishing? Or maybe they’re helping out on the farm! Track them down, solve the puzzles and enter the competition to win a prize! Fun for all the family!

The BodenGnome Trail runs throughout the summer – it opens Sat 21st July and runs until Sun 2nd September. Please note we are closed Mondays and Tuesdays except for Bank Holiday.

Arboretum Entrance fees apply: £6.50 Adults, £3.50 Children (5-16yrs), Under 5s free. Booking not necessary – simply pay upon arrival.
Dogs on leads are welcome too.

 

Sat 1st September Plant Hunters’ Fair

FREE admission into the Plant Fair. Top specialist nurseries with thousands of plants to choose from. Each stall has it’s own unique range of plants including rare, unusual, heritage and brand new varieties. There is something for every garden.

Normal admission applies into the grounds.

Open Air Yoga with Victoria Waits

Enjoy yoga in the open air, exploring the body and opening the mind. The session is open to all levels of experience, whether you have never done yoga before or are an experienced practitioner. Enjoying an open flow and open hearted practice in the beautiful grounds of Bodenham Arboretum. Guided by yoga teacher Victoria Waits you will be taken on a journey gaining knowledge about the body, how it moves and how you can help release tension and stress. Increase your self awareness and well being, build strength and flexibility. Learn to relax. Enjoy a workshop every two weeks, each one focusing on different areas within the body.
Sat 25th Aug – Restore in Nature with Victoria Waits
Each time you come along to a session you will gain information which will enable you to take this experience home and learn to heal your body in your personal practice and adjust it to your own bodies needs. Time: 2.00-3.30pm, Cost: £10 per person. Book in advance by calling the Visitor Centre on 01562 852444. Meet at the visitors centre 10-15 minutes prior to session beginning. Suitable for ages 16+. Please bring your own mat if you have one, if not email me at victoriawaitsyoga@gmail.com. Wear comfortable clothes nothing too baggy, nothing too tight! The Visitor Centre has lovely food and refreshments (not included in the price) so we can all enjoy a drink and sit down after the workshop has finished. These workshops are held in the grounds outdoors, enjoying the fresh air and beautiful sunshine. Sessions are weather permitting, if it is raining on the day you will receive notification that the workshop has been cancelled and will be refunded in full

Summer Holiday Fun with The World Outside

The World Outside is an independent Forest School run within the grounds of Bodenham Arboretum.

WEDNESDAYS – 2 HOUR SESSION for 5 to 12 year olds
Bushcraft and Woodland Activities for families
10am – 12noon / 1pm – 3pm: 25 July, 1 Aug, 8 Aug, 15, Aug, 22 Aug, 29 Aug
Cost £5.50 (discount for siblings)
Children to be accompanied by a responsible adult
(Younger siblings are welcome – though they must have a ticket!)

THURSDAYS – DROP OFF & LEAVE, 7 HOUR SESSION – 5 – 14 YEARS OLDS

Activities include stream damming, den building, pong dipping, cooking on fire, tool use, mini beast hunting plus much much more.

Djembe Drums Workshop

Experience the energy of traditional West African drumming and the joy of community music making with tutor Faith Sax for an energizing day here in the beautiful surroundings of Bodenham Arboretum.

£37.00 per person for the day, which also includes morning tea or coffee, a Ploughman’s Lunch and an afternoon cream tea!

The day is pitched for beginners and improvers to learn how to play Djembe and Bass Drums. Drums are provided.

Pencil & Watercolour Workshops

Come down to Bodenham Arboretum and unleash your inner artist with the help of local artist Daphne Millington. Learn new skills using pencils and / or watercolours to create your very own masterpiece.

We ask that you please bring a HB pencil + a selection of coloured pencils, putty rubber and smooth paper if you’re sticking to the pencil drawing; if you prefer using watercolours please bring along your own paints and brushes – however we will have some spare if you’re unable to get hold of all of these.

The day also includes morning tea or coffee with cake, homemade meat plaits with a selection of delicious salads and a scrumptious homemade dessert and finish the day off with the Bodenham afternoon cream tea.

Time: 10am – 4pm
Cost: £29.50 per person with a non refundable £5 deposit to be paid per person to secure your place.
